Ripple Effect: The National Sevens Series 2026 Returns

I always want to tell you people things that have been going on, stories of those that have gone by, and what is to come. I won't say that I’m the best scribe that ever was, but I’ll say that, with a glass of bourbon and a pack, the gentle strokes give color eventually.

The last time this ripple gripped the country was shy of a year ago, and here we are again, there and back to the beginning of the national 7s circuit 2026 edition.

I know, I know, the heaves, the tackles, the tries, and the screams; primal would be an understatement. Yet beyond the bruising action, each leg of the SportPesa Sevens Series carries its own distinct flavor, from the beachside buzz of Driftwood to the high-stakes intensity of Prinsloo.

And don’t get me started on the party wagon…

“So, from the driftwood, over four decades ago, the name was coined, and so it has remained to date, the emblem of our prestige,” Mr. Lai of Mombasa Sports Club had said when we sought to learn the tale of the host of the first leg of the 2025 national sevens circuit.

Peppered with the coastal vibe, I think about the good times, and I know nothing's going to change; it will always be the tackles, the blood, and the tears. No, that’s not nostalgia, despite not having the first leg in Mombasa, as the honor fell to Prinsloo this edition.

Not fell to, I’m sorry, it was the humility to pick up the responsibility. And so Nakuru will receive the first wave of starved sevens fans as the series commences on 25th July. And I know the table will be big enough to start the six-leg feast.

How do I know? One might ask. Should I tell?

No, I wouldn’t want to spoil the anticipation. But I suspect it will rain, in the calendar, and strutting drunk in the mud after an action-packed day has never been more inviting. That, I know.

And then there was Dala 7s and the showstopper Coster Ojwang in the village, the crowning jewel in last year's circuit. Dala Kababa gave us many a tale that we can't wait to relive this season.

And now, something that has been going on.

TikoFANS will be at the Embu 7s. That’s it, that’s the icing, my good people. We’re going to Embu, where it all began.
