Over Coffee, Let’s Talk About Opportunity

I remember some time back, after a conversation with Mike Mutungi, CEO of ICL-Africa, on the missing link between Youth and Opportunity, I shared a little about the event, scheduled to happen at The Chandaria Centre for Performing Arts on the 15th of October.

It has been a minute, yes, some time since we had a heart-to-heart. But that does not mean that I am not thinking about you. I do, I do think about you and our little conversations.

A cliché? No, I confess it is not. For longing is an emotion as old as time. But not to worry, for I come bearing news. Great news.

The great News is that the Africa SME's Summit, one like no other, powered by I Choose Life – Africa (ICL-Africa), is finally here.

I remember, after a conversation with Mike Mutungi, CEO of ICL-Africa, about the missing link between Youth and Opportunity, I shared a little about the event, scheduled for the Chandaria Centre for Performing Arts on the 15th of October.

“Out of the 18 million jobs in Kenya, the MSMEs employ about 15 million,” Mike had said, adding that for many unemployed youths, the answer lies not in a lack of talent, but in a lack of opportunity.

You must be wondering why I’m throwing data at you in a heart-to-heart during our coffee evenings. (Oh! I’ve got a large mug before me, and a smoldering butt in the ashtray).

If the data is to be believed, the future of the world is Africa, with the youngest and fastest-growing population making this engagement pivotal to accelerating business growth through Industry-Academia Collaboration.

There, that’s why.

So, this! This is an opportunity to connect young innovators with investors, policymakers, and mentors who can help transform ideas into enterprises.

“Come interact with us at the Small and Medium (SME’s) Conference,” Mike says, inviting industry leaders, academia, enterprises, and capital investors.

As for me and my people (of course you’re my people), we’re too enthusiastic to miss the ball.
