“My friend, where are you?” came the tattered voice from the other end of the call. It was Mangisto Dok.

The long weekend is here, and I could hear the excitement in his voice — he wasn’t about to stay indoors.

“I’m in the crib, Og. What’s up?” I replied.

“The weekend is upon us, and my palms are itching. What say you?”

I laughed. “You’ll be spoilt for choice, my guy.”

“I don’t know too much about Nairobi weekends, but my brother Mabior says Beirut still takes first place!”

“I’ll let you be the judge,” I said. “We’ve got theatre, live music, and proper vibes. And if you want to laugh your socks off, the Gods must be crazy at the Kenya National Theatre.”

“The gods are always crazy — how else do you explain Mabior being my brother?” he joked. Over 6’7 himself and Mabior barely 5ft, the man had a point.

“So how do I laugh my socks off properly?” he asked.

“Simple. Catch the Millaz production at the Kenya National Theatre this evening or tomorrow. Proper rib-cracking stuff.”

“I’m in. But a weekend isn’t complete without the banjo,” he added.

“Easy. You can go full experience with the Fisherman’s Chomafest in Bondo if you feel like an out-of-town escape. Or keep it in Nairobi with ‘May I?’ at Saffron Restaurant and Gastro Bar, good food, better music.”
