This Night Feels Like 2019: An Evening with Muthaka

Make me feel

How it feels

When it's real

Oh…This night feels like 2019……

So, the song went, and at every pluck of the guitar, closer and closer, nostalgia crept.

I have to admit, I was slightly hungover the past, and I’d be lying, my dear reader, if I said I didn’t have the blues, listening to Muthaka belt her heart out!

But you know the beauty of it all, it might have felt so cold then, yet blue is the light, that feeling when the acoustics have you teetering, that’s the shine upon the soul.

And that evening at the Austin Room, listening to the Off My Chest Album live performance, I knew I had to make a brand-new start.

Lemons on a road trip

Bitter, but it's so sweet

I hate how they made me feel….

On she went, among the fairy lights and candles.

“Why should I make a brand-new start?” I ask myself so many times.

Reading this, you might say blues have a hold of me. But please let me ask, coz I believe I have some latitude to stew in these blues.

The sun shines, and the rain rains, but to where does the wind blow?

So, I got up from my seat as the sixth edition of the show came to a close, and climbed up the stairs out of the dimly lit theatre, questions still lingering, was this the rain to wash it all away, or do I need to wait till the next edition for another acoustic epiphany?

Stepping into the bright hallway, the sudden light felt almost too sharp after the warm glow of the stage. I was still halfway inside the music when I heard a soft voice behind me.

“Did you enjoy the show?”

I turned around slowly. She was leaning lightly against the doorframe, the corners of her eyes crinkling with that same quiet warmth the songs had carried all evening.

“Yes, I did,” I replied, smiling.

“How about you?”

“Well, that goes without saying,” she said, her smile deepening sweetly. “Please don’t forget to share those pictures with me.”

“I won’t,” I answered, already feeling the night shift just a little. “So text me.”
